2048

Slide the tiles, merge the numbers, reach 2048.

Slide the tiles. Equal numbers merge. Reach 2048.

Arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, swipe on a phone. A tile that has just merged cannot merge again in the same move — which is what makes the endgame hard.

Frequently asked questions

Can a tile merge twice in one move?

No, and that rule matters. A row of 2 2 4 slid left becomes 4 4, not 8. Implementations that get this wrong make the game far too easy.

How do I actually reach 2048?

Keep your largest tile in one corner and never move in the direction that would pull it out. Build your biggest row along that edge and work the rest around it.

Does the game end at 2048?

Only if you want it to. You are offered the choice to stop or keep merging for a higher score.
