Do chimpanzees really beat humans at this?
At this specific task, yes. Researchers at Kyoto University found young chimpanzees, particularly one named Ayumu, could recall briefly-shown numeral positions more accurately than human adults. It is a narrow result about rapid spatial working memory, not general intelligence.
What score is good?
Reaching 10 is respectable and 15 is strong. The jump gets steep fast because the numbers are scattered rather than in a line.
Why do the numbers disappear?
That is the test. Reading them off the screen would measure your clicking speed, not your memory.
