YouTube Downloader
Check any YouTube link and find the official, permitted way to download the video.
About the YouTube Downloader
Paste a YouTube link to see what it points at — the title, the channel and the cover image. Video and audio downloading is not offered here: YouTube serves its media behind access controls, and its Terms of Service do not permit working around them, so DO101 does not. Instead the tool shows you the routes that are allowed, including YouTube Studio for videos on your own channel. If you run your own copy of DO101, the interface is wired to a provider interface you can connect a lawful media source to.
How to use it
- 1Paste a YouTube link, or press Paste to take one from your clipboard.
- 2Press Check link to see the title, channel and cover image.
- 3Confirm you have the right to download the video.
- 4Follow the official route shown for your situation.
- 5Only after the cover image? The Thumbnail Grabber is linked from the page.
What you get
- Reads every YouTube link shape: watch, youtu.be, Shorts, live, embed and music
- Shows the title, channel and cover image using YouTube's own public oEmbed endpoint
- Says plainly what it will not do, instead of a button that never works
- Points you at YouTube Studio and Premium, which are the permitted routes
- A documented provider interface for operators with a lawful media source
- No account, no sign-up and no adverts pretending to be download buttons
The permitted ways to get a YouTube video
The video is yours
YouTube Studio → Content → the menu beside the video → Download. You get the file at the resolution you uploaded, with nothing in between.
You want it offline on a phone
YouTube Premium downloads videos for offline playback inside the app. That is the supported way to watch without a connection.
You need a clip for a review or a lesson
Ask the channel. Creators often send the original file, and many are glad to be asked. A Creative Commons licence on a video covers reuse, not the means of getting hold of it.
You are the rights holder of content someone else posted
YouTube's copyright tools let you request removal or claim the upload, which is a stronger position than downloading a copy.
Why this tool will not rip the video
YouTube does not serve its media as a plain file you can link to. The streams sit behind access controls, and its Terms of Service specifically do not allow getting around them. Sites that do it anyway are breaking those terms, and where the video belongs to someone else, infringing their copyright as well.
DO101 would rather tell you that than show you a download button that quietly does nothing, or bury the page in adverts shaped like one. Every other tool on this site does exactly what it says, and this page is not going to be the exception.
What is here instead: a link checker that reads any YouTube URL and shows you what it points at, the official routes above, and — if you run your own copy of DO101 — a documented provider interface to connect a lawful media source to.
Got the file? Turn it into an MP3
Once you have downloaded your own video from YouTube Studio, the Video to MP3 converter turns it into an MP3 in your browser — any quality from 128 to 320 kbps, trimmed to the part you want, and never uploaded.
What reaches a server
Unlike most DO101 tools, this one is not purely in-browser. The video id is passed to YouTube’s own public oEmbed endpoint through this site, because that endpoint sends no CORS header and cannot be called from your browser directly. That is the only request made, nothing is stored, and there is no account.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download a YouTube video as MP4 or MP3 here?
Not on DO101. YouTube serves the media behind access controls, and its Terms of Service do not allow getting around them, so this site does not — and it will not show you a download button that quietly does nothing. If the video is yours, YouTube Studio has an official download; if you want it offline on a phone, YouTube Premium does that inside the app.
Why do other sites manage it then?
They work around those access controls, which is against YouTube's terms and, where the video is not theirs, generally copyright infringement too. Many also carry misleading adverts dressed up as download buttons. DO101 is not going to do either of those things to rank for a search term.
How do I download my own YouTube video?
Open YouTube Studio, go to Content, use the menu beside the video and choose Download. You get the file at the resolution you uploaded, with no third party involved. That is the fastest route and the only one guaranteed to keep working.
What does this tool actually do, then?
It reads any YouTube link and tells you what it points at — title, channel and cover image — using YouTube's own public oEmbed endpoint, and lays out the permitted routes for getting the video itself. If it is the cover image you are after, it sends you to DO101's Thumbnail Grabber, which does that job properly.
I run my own copy of DO101 — can I make downloads work?
Yes, if you have a lawful source for the media, such as content you host yourself or a licensing arrangement with the rights holder. Implement the DownloadProvider interface in src/lib/youtube/provider.ts and return it from getProvider(); the format and quality selectors are already wired to whatever it reports. No implementation ships with DO101.
Is my link sent anywhere?
The video id goes to YouTube's own oEmbed endpoint through this site, which is how the title and channel are read. That endpoint sends no CORS header, so it cannot be called from the browser directly. Nothing is stored and there is no account.
