About the PDF to Text

Extract every word from a PDF's text layer, with optional page markers, then copy it or download it as a .txt file. If the PDF is a scan with no text layer, DO101 says so and points you at OCR instead of returning an empty file.

How to use it

  1. 1Add your PDF.
  2. 2Press extract.
  3. 3Copy the text or download it as a .txt file.

What you get

  • Whole-document extraction with page markers
  • Word and character counts
  • Detects scanned PDFs with no text layer
  • Copy or download as .txt
  • Runs on your device

Frequently asked questions

Why did I get nothing back?

Your PDF is almost certainly a scan — an image of a page rather than real text. The PDF OCR tool reads the words out of the image instead.

Is the layout preserved?

Line breaks are reconstructed from where the text sits on the page, so paragraphs come out sensibly. Columns and tables will read in the order the PDF stores them, which is not always the visual order.
