Yes. The document is encrypted to the PDF standard, and DO101 checks the output actually carries an encryption dictionary before letting you download it. Opening the file afterwards genuinely requires the password.
Can DO101 recover my password if I forget it?
No — and neither can anyone else. The password is never sent anywhere and never stored, which is exactly what makes it safe. Write it down somewhere before you encrypt anything important.
What do the permission switches actually do?
